BEATS (Bringing Eternal Arts to the Streets) is one of the ways that Urban Resurrection creates an environment for community youth development (CYD) to occur effectively. Using the urban arts like graffiti, hip hop, dance, spoken word, poetry and others we are opening up a safe venue for the youth to get off of the streets and engage in constructive means of expression. By developing a Youth Voice Committee we will further involve the youth in positive neighborhood action in order to bring about holistic transformation to both them and to the streets.
The main rythmns of BEATS will include:
Open Mic Nights (once a month starting in September): which will give a safe venue for the youth to express their minds and hearts through the urban arts and to hear from gifted artists in return.
Skilz: The Skilz workshops (every other month starting in November) will be used to teach the youth marketable skills in the urban arts and will be lead by professional artists in various formats. It will also be a time for youth to grow and learn from solid role models and develop their own leadership potential.
Youth Voice Committee: as young leaders emerge they will be empowered to actually take over the development of BEATS itself and will be trained and mentored in community development, leadership development and life skills in order to become an active and vital part of the transformative process in their own community.
CYD (Community Youth Development)
Community Youth Development’s goal is to see the youth of the community developed through relationships, networks, challenges, and opportunities to contribute, so they can be valued and productive members of their community and beyond.
Mentoring & Discipleship
We want to see believers in Jesus become followers of Jesus and see people move from their current level of capacity to the next level by having personal breakthroughs.
We do this by finding and training mentors in the local churches via relationships we have built with local pastors. We also train and organize these mentors into an effective ministry through appropriate training materials and experiences.
