CYD (Community Youth Development)
Community Youth Development’s goal is to see the youth of the community developed through relationships, networks, challenges, and opportunities to contribute, so they can be valued and productive members of their community and beyond.
BEATS (Bringing Eternal Arts to the Streets) is one of the ways that Urban Resurrection creates an environment for community youth development (CYD) to occur effectively.
The Vision: To bring transformation and empower the youth of Village West through the arts.
The main rhythms of BEATS include:
Open Mic Nights: We use the urban art forms such as Hip Hop, spoken word, graffiti art, and dance to provide the youth with an environment to express themselves positively and creatively to each other, caring adults, and the community at large in order to affect change.
Change of Art: Every summer we offer art workshops taught by skilled artists/role models in order to sharpen and channel the youths’ creative talents to productive means.
Rap Sessions: : A weekly meeting of core youth who want to go deeper in discussing life issues, spiritual growth, and ways to get involved in the community.
Mentoring: We want to see believers in Jesus become followers of Jesus and see people move from their current level of capacity to the next level by having personal breakthroughs. We do this by finding and training mentors in the local churches via relationships we have built with local pastors. We also train and organize these mentors into an effective ministry through appropriate training materials and experiences.
