Urban Resurrection team has been going through a challenging season of transition, not just ministry wise but also in a personal level. Having two new staff join (Elaina and Kristy), Laurie taking a “leave” for five months, the Philips’ family moving to another house in the Grove, starting two businesses that will be run by our youth, and joining up with InnerChange; these are just some of the changes that we have been facing and praying through. While trying to adjust, there have been times we’ve also felt a bit overwhelmed and disheartened with the instability we’ve been experiencing. But, I’m happy to say that in the midst of this, God has shown His love by delivering an encouraging message through a friend from our community. God is so good and always knows exactly what we need and when we need it. This past week, we got a visit from our talented friend John Ulmer who has been there since the first BEATS open mic, writing and spitting profound rhymes. He stopped by our office to drop off this poem.
Allow me to express my affection, to the staff of Urban Resurrection. To the creators of BEATS, still bringing eternal arts to the streets. This once a month creation from our ghetto saints, I take this time out to give my thanks. Here’s a man whose heart shines real bright, that’s right, I’m talking about you Mike. A friend since the beginning, what more can I say, your goal is within sight keep heading that way. You’re in a position of making a difference, keep doing what you’re doing cause in due time, somebody’s gonna listen. And to Erika, I’m there with ya, keep handling your business, you too are also making a difference. You’re like that backbone behind the scene. Holding it down, you know what I mean! Now Tatiana, at first, I thought we weren’t getting along, I guess I was wrong. We just didn’t too much communicate, but still your friendship I appreciate. You’re a bright young woman working to achieve, a leader with a loving heart, I believe. Grace, keep that beautiful smile on your face. You’re so gentle and kind, a friend like you truly is hard to find, and I’m so glad you’re a friend of mine. And Luana, you’re so precious and sweet, loving and unique, affectionate and warm, you’re a heart in human form. Now, I can never forget Laurie, a true angel on earth, you’re a pure love and all it’s worth.
Thank you!!
Y’all’s friend,
John “Nsane” Ulmer
